For my informative essay I am going to look at the history of eugenics in the early 19th century. With a brief history of the origin of the term “eugenics”, I will explain Galton’s theory on natural selection. Also how his work had an effect other parts of the world? The focus will be on the negative eugenics movement in the United States and the people that were adversely affected. How did sterilization and prohibition of marriage to certain unfit individuals clean up the gene pool? What happened when The Virginia Eugenics Sterilization Act was passed in the 1920s? Carrie Buck that was used as a test case, she was said to be feebleminded, was she? In the essay I wish to answer these questions.
