Narrative Essay Grading System:

Focus and Organization /10
- most important
- all formal aspects
- 1000 words (give or take 20)
- 5-7 paragraphs
- watch for zig zag structure

Style and Voice /5
- words you've selected

Grammar Mechanics /5
- short document style

Interpretative: looking for the possibilities of meaning.
- not literal!

Three main things liars do:
- Stuttering: something happens in their brain, they have to restart, haven't quite decided what they wanted to say

- The Drift: eyes drift upwards and to the left. When a persons eyes move to the left, their brain begins inventing.

- Touch their nose (cover their mouth) The Catch: cover their mouth because they regret what they're saying.

Subliminal Advertising:
- began in movie theatres in the 50's advertising popcorn.
- subliminal - not entirely conscious of something.
- watch a video by Darren Brown displaying subliminal advertising

Writing interpretative part:
- look at same time frame
- look at components, relationship between frames
- think in terms of what you see, hear and metaphor
- consider the text
- demonstrate that you can imply interpretation
- be concise
- over a page, you might have too much writing.
- don't waste time describing
- include both parts together in document style
