Exam Preparation

Read:
"The Most Offensive Commercial Ever Produced" and "What a Certain Visionary Once Said"

You can make notes:
-Must be printed from the link given in the 'Open Discussion'
-Face of page only, not on the back
-Point form only! Write smallest number of words possible
->For example, if you don't know the definition of a word, write a synonym to help you
-We are handing these in with our essay
-You may highlight/circle/draw arrows/etc

*May bring a thesaurus and dictionary! (Paper not electronic)

During the Exam

1. Prewriting
-Prepare by reading and understanding the articles
-Brainstorm and organize!
-Prof suggests using a semantic web
-Brainstorm ideas and then brainstorm each paragraph
-First brainstorm won't be that good
->Go over it and make connections, get rid of repetition and make cut outs
-After you brainstorm develop a plan in point form
-Develop a thesis (topic + controlling idea)
-3 to 5 body paragraphs, don't plan intro and conclusion

*Make sure than plan is complete and clear* This is important in writing a good essay!*

Estimated Time: 30mins to 1hour
(Probably closer to one hour)

2. Writing
-Do not write two copies
-Write 1 paragraph per page
-Double spaced!!
-Be as neat as possible
-Prefers pen but you may use pencil
-Use in-text citations

Estimated Time: 30mins

3. Revision
-Won't have time to edit the content structure, do this in the plan
-Proof read for grammar and mechanics
-Check for syntax errors: Check for run ons and fragments
->Read sentences out of order to see these errors
-Check for proper comma use
-Check for proper spelling
->Uncertain? Look it up
-Check for proper homonym use

Estimated Time: 30mins

*Plan time for 2hours but Prof will give us close to the full 3hours

Marking Scheme
-Focus and organization
-Content
-Style and diction
-Grammar and mechanics

/20

Most lose marks in style and diction, and grammar and mechanics

*Important*
