When writing any assignment, unless specified:
-Always double space
-Always use Times New Roman, 12 point
-Always use short document style
-Always use essay format

Narrative: Story. Has a beginning, middle and an end
Narration: The telling of a story. Specific to the instance that it was being told
Narrator: The story teller. The author IS NOT the narrator
Narrative Voice: The voice of the narrator. First person, second person or third person

Types of Narrative Voices
First person - "I, me, we". Limited. Interior and intimate.
Second person - "you". Not recommended to use. Tricky.
Third person - "he, she, they". Exterior and virtually unlimited. Omniscient (all knowing)


Narrative Essay - Due Week 7
-must have a narrative voice -> Where voice sits (first or third person)
-must have a beginning, middle and an end
-In the first paragraph: -> establish a status quo (a norm)
-> introduce character(s)
-> introduce what life is like for your character(s)
-> complication must be presented at the end of paragraph 1.
-build rising action (3-5 paragraphs) - complications introduced in beats
-conclusion (1 paragraph)
-essay must be 5-7 paragraphs. 1000 words plus or minus 20.
-can be pure fiction or a real life story (recommended to fuse both)

Proposal Paragraph - Due Next week (September 24 for Monday classes)
-Short document style
-Clear beginning, middle and end
-introduce character(s)
-introduce narrative voice and why you chose it
-add anything else you think is relevant
-around 8-10 sentences (not exact)
-Title needed (but can be changed)


Groups have been assigned. Must meet at the time posted on this forum. Be at the reception 10 minutes before your group is scheduled and read each others proposals. Meet with prof at specified time.
