Introduction –COMM1007

Literal (text)
• basic understanding of concrete form
• understand the based meaning of the language
• applying the balance between abstract and concrete

Interpretive (between the lines)
• asking the right question
• possibilities of a meaning
• slow reading will increase the awareness of the questions
• look past the text and finding the meaning
• understanding the text so you can defend your thought

Critical/Analytical (context)
• thinking outside of the box
• going into the depth of the text
• finding the real meaning which the author is wanting to tell you

• not knowing a word=look it up
• Use prior your prior knowledge
• Indium could give you more meaning of something
 Example in class
Slinging the suds – bar waiting

Don’t go to quickly through literal text keep an open mind to be aware of the important facts!!!

APA Assignment
• Paragraphs 2-3
• Word count 400 words
• Avoid history of APA style
• Identify APA
• Main features (decide which ones are important to choose from so you aren’t including the ones that don’t matter. There is only a 400 word limit)
• Example(s) – a good way to do it would be to add it in when describing a main feature
• Critical thinking
• Research-internet
• Quote or paraphrase (do not cut and paste)
• Word processed, grade ready, Due Friday September 21 2012 at 11am
